Los Isleños Museum and Historic Village, or Los Isleños Museum Complex, is owned by St. Bernard Parish Government and is managed cooperatively by the Parish Government and Los Isleños Heritage and Cultural Society of St. Bernard.

Self Guided Free Tours

Los Isleños Museum Complex grounds are open to the public, free of charge, seven days weekly. Bilingual Spanish-English interpretive signage allows visitors to learn about the history of each historic structure, a 2,000 year-old cypress log and nature trail. Guided tours are available only by appointment.

What to See

Los Isleños Museum and Historic Village sits on 22 acres of property just under a 17 mile (27.4 km) drive from the heart of the French Quarter in New Orleans. The site is home to nine structures as well as a Houma Native American interpretive area, a heritage marker to the Filipino settlement of Saint Maló, and a nature trail.

Historic buildings on the property date from the early 20th century all the way back to the late 18th century during the Spanish Colonial period in Louisiana. In addition, Los Isleños Museum and Historic Village boasts a modern event hall with outdoor pavilions and the historic Coconut Island Barroom for rent. Rent Now...

Appointment Procedures

In order to best provide to visitors and in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the following procedures have been put into place for appointments and tours:

  • Guided Tours and Research Appointments will be given by appointment only. Requests must be emailed to losislenos2011@gmail.com at least 36 hours prior to requested time.
  • All appointment requests must include contact person's name, telephone number, number of people in party, and where the party resides (such as Metairie, LA or Jackson, MS).
  • No backpacks allowed inside any buildings.
  • No food or drink are allowed inside structures except bottled water.

Docent-led tours of Los Isleños Museum and Historic Village last 45 minutes and include three (3) buildings: El Museo de los Isleños (Los Isleños Museum), the Louis A. Ducros, M.D. Museum and Research Library, and the Estopinal-Salles House and Kitchen.

Regular tour days and times remain Wednesday through Sunday at 11:15 a.m., 12:15 p.m., 1:15 p.m., 2:15 p.m., and 3:15 p.m. Tours will depend on availability of volunteer docents. Tour donations are $5.00 per person with children 12 years of age and younger free of charge.

Wheelchair-accessible restrooms can be found in Los Isleños Museum, the Louis A. Ducros, M.D. Museum and Research Library, and the Frank M. Fernández, Jr. Isleño Center.

The Louis A. Ducros, M.D. Museum and Research Library is open to genealogical research and the study of the Isleño community. Our hours of operation are from Wednesday to Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Private Photography

Family photography is encouraged. Photographers are requested to remove props and litter from the grounds.

The grounds of Los Isleños Museum and Historic Village are open free of charge to the public Wednesday through Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the summer and from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the winter except on federal holidays and holidays observed by St. Bernard Parish Government. The grounds are also inaccessible to the public when facilities are rented for special events.

Bilingual English-Spanish signage is posted in front of seven of the buildings to explain the importance and history of the structures.

Yes, there is a gift shop inside El Museo de los Isleños (Los Isleños Museum).

How accessible is the facility?
There are ramps which allow access to El Museo de los Isleños (Los Isleños Museum), the Louis A. Ducros, M.D. Museum and Research Library, and the Frank M. Fernández, Jr. Isleño Center. These buildings also have wheelchair-accessible restrooms. There are reserved parking spots for people with disabilities next to these three buildings. Hand rails are installed at all buildings and paths leading to these buildings are flattened.
